CNC Setup Machinist

We need a full time CNC Setup machinist who can help maintain daily production through tool changes, changeovers, and daily maintenance. Mentor and train setup and machine operators.  Must be able to read and create setup information and do program editing, if necessary ( re-boring jaws, aligning fixtures, setting taper, replace broken tools, etc. )  Can read and fully understand a blueprint, and can come up with methodology to process a part from start to finish.  Must have full knowledge of a CNC control panel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Practice safety standards and instructions from supervisory staff.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area, this includes, but is not limited to, tool boxes, tools, machines, gages and gage tables. 
  • Can capture setup and tool change time through logging in and out of jobs through data collection terminals.
  • Report to Production Manager the cycle time and production rate of all jobs attended to.
  • Can read and understand a complex blueprint/geometric tolerance interpretation
  • Change stick tools including knurls
  • Change reamers, drills, and boring bars. Live and static.
  • Understand and demonstrate tool selection via vending machine and tool crib.
  • Explain and identify different nose radius tools to ensure correct inserts are being used
  • Read and follow setup instructions, tool layout sheet, machine setup checklist, and other setup related documents.
  • Full knowledge of CNC control panel and safety features available on the control, single block, optional stop, distance to go, etc...

Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in doing setups and operating CNC machines for precision parts.
  • Read and understand G-Code programming
  • Possess the ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words, as well as recognizing similarities and differences between words and series of numbers. Must have the ability to print and speak English
  • Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the applications of such instruments.  Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, micrometers, height gages, plug and attribute gages.
  • Employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. 

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), 5 year prior machine shop experience setting up and running production in a precision manufacturing environment. Ability to use and read various measuring instruments. Knowledge of multi-axis CNC lathes, Swiss type CNC lathes, and vertical machining centers. 

Wage:

$18.75-$28.00
